Royal Golf Club des Fagnes
USGA Course & Slope Rating
Brussels, 22/11/2007,
Dear President, Captain and Secretary,

The Course Rating Committee has approved the results of the USGA Course & Slope Rating as recently performed at your Club.
The results are to be found in the table on the next page.
I will send you, together with these data, the adjusted EGA Playing Handicap Tables.
Please publish these Tables in color at valves in your club.
I would like to draw your attention to the following:

• The general set-up of your course should be constant. If you cut the rough drastically or if you stop cutting the rough, it would have huge implications for the Course & Slope Rating.

Important Information :

• Shortening or lengthening the Course with 20m will change the Course Rating with 0,1.

• Shortening or lengthening the Course with 85m will change the Course Rating with 1,0.

• Advancing or moving back the tee-markers with more than 10 m relative to the Permanent Distance Marker would lead to a completely different Course & Slope Rating. Your competition would no longer be played under Qualifying Conditions!

• The same principle applies to lengthening or shortening the Total Course with more than 100m.

• Excessive watering of the fairways will influence the roll and thus the Effective Playing Length of your course.

• Narrowing the fairways with 9m on every hole increases the Course Rating with 0,3 and the Slope with 2.

• The speed of the Greens has a great influence on the Course & Slope Rating.
A wrong Course & Slope Rating has a great impact on the EGA Exact Handicap of your playing members, which would mean that a realistic comparison with other courses would be impossible.
